Joint Director General of Foreign Trade, Ludhiana, and Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, along with the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), Punjab chapter, jointly organised an exporter’s meet on “Mentoring first generation entrepreneur” under the Niryat Bandhu Scheme of DGFT.

In his welcome address, SC Ralhan, Regional Chairman (NR), FIEO, said Indian exports have been hit hard due to overall slump in the global market and negative sentiments amongst the business communities. Several inventories of finished goods meant for exports were piled up in godowns while orders were not being picked up for quite some time. He said markets in the US have started showing signs of some recovery but European markets still presented a gloomy picture.

Ralhan urged the participant exporters to make extra efforts and continuously look for better sale avenues abroad so as to increase the overall exports of the country and keep the trade deficit at optimum level. He said Punjab’s share in the country’s exports stood at USD 1.02 billion as per the latest figures available and the need of the hour was to increase it by exploring fresh avenues of exports.

Satish Kumar Sharma, Chairman, Punjab State Industries and Export Corporation Limited, said exporters should check the credentials of the overseas buyers before shipping any material. He said he would take up the matter of the minimum export-related infrastructure with the state government to ensure smooth flow of exports.

Amit Sharma, Assistant DGFT, Ludhiana, apprised young entrepreneurs of the role of the DGFT and foreign trade policy. He urged exporters to derive maximum benefits under the Niryat Bandhu Scheme.

Over 100 exporters from different trades participated in the meet.
