An exhibition titled ‘Shalu’s from Lucknow’ brought a collection of outfits and attires from the ‘City of Nawabs’ to Ludhiana. A number of women visited the exhibition. Shalu said the people of Ludhiana have a discerning eye for fashion and clothes and that’s why she decided to put up her collection in the city.
The collection was exhibited at Sutlej Club. Designer Shalu said a number of dresses having ‘chikankari’ work, intricate murri work, shadow work, techi work were on display.
She said because of the onset of summer season, pastel colours are favourite these days, while hot pinks, peach colours are also in vogue. “Mango yellow is very popular this season,” she added. Embellishments including mirror work are also quite popular. City residents came in large numbers to check out the various apprels available designed and featuring the elegance and nobility of the culture of Lucknow.
Shalu said her collection is made by a group of 175 underprivileged women. “My designer dresses are about women empowerment, right from providing a source of livelihood to underprivileged women, to giving a quality product to women who value good quality, fashion, elegance, style and tradition,” said Lucknow-based designer.
