Meet on Kumaoni language begins

A two-day Kumaoni language meeting began at Jinti, near Almora, yesterday.

The event is being organised by the Kumaoni Bhasha Prachar Samiti to honour those people who have devoted their lives to the promotion of Kumaoni language.

“We should make the maximum use of the language in day-to-day work, so that it could be included in the Eighth schedule of the Constitution,” said Mathura Dutt Mtahpal, a senior Kumaoni littérateur.

Writers and professors from Kumaon University also addressed the gathering on the first day today.

Dr Dev Singh Pokharia, a former professor of the Almora campus of Kumaon University, stressed the need for a Kumoani dictionary.
