National Library Day was celebrated at Doon Library here today on the occasion of the 123rd birth anniversary of Dr SR Rangnathan. Members of the library remembered Ranganathan and discussed his works and various issues of library science.
Earlier, Indu Kumar Pandey, a former Chief Secretary, and Prof BK Joshi, Director of Doon Library, inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Later, Minakshi Bhardwaj, Bhagwati Prasad Nautiyal, Dr DK Pandey and Sukriti Arya shared their views about various aspects of library.
Prof Joshi said Ranganathan was the founder of the library science movement in the country and no one had been able to reach the kind of achievement and the efforts that he had made in this regard. “There is a need to open more libraries in the city, so that the power of books could reach every section of society,” he added.
Chandrashekhar Tiwari, Dr Manoj Panjani, Yogita Thapliyal, Khushi Ram Sharma and Gitanjali Bhatt were present at the function.
