The award ceremony of the passing-out course of 136 regular, 119 TGC and UES-23 courses of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) was held at Khetarpal Auditorium here today. The auditorium is named after the brave patriot, Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, who was posthumously decorated with the highest military award, Param Vir Chakra, for his exceptional bravery during the war with Pakistan in 1971. Maj Gen YS Mahiwal, Officiating Commandant, IMA, gave away the awards to outstanding gentlemen cadets who excelled in various fields during their pre-commissioning training at the academy. The gentlemen cadets get exposure to weapon training, warfare tactics, drill and multifarious activities aimed at making them battle-ready to tackle with bravery any eventuality facing the motherland. Those gentleman cadets who showed exceptional performance are felicitated by the commandant of the academy.
Kiran Mahiwal, wife of Major Gen Mahiwal, released the Spring Term 2015 IMA Journal, which carries the kaleidoscope of the plethora of activities of the term, besides the sobriquets of each passing-out cadet.
Maj Gen Mahiwal, while addressing the gentleman cadets, laid emphasis on building qualities of head and heart, which would mold them into better leaders.
Security beefed up for passing-out parade
Dehradun: Security measures have been stepped up ahead of the passing-out parade (PoP) at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) which is slated to take place on June 13. The police have claimed to have made fool-proof security arrangements. The traffic would be diverted near IMA in order to ensure flawless security arrangements and to avoid traffic jams near IMA during PoP. SSP Dehradun Pushpak Jyoti said that search operations would be held in hotels and inns in the district. Meanwhile, the IMA administration has made unprecedented security arrangements in order to ensure that the parade passes off smoothly. No civilian would be allowed to enter the IMA campus without having proper passes issued by the academy. — TNS
