Dehradun, January 9
PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry(PHDCCI), with an objective to address the impending issues of direct selling industry, organised a seminar to sensitise and help the state government to regulate the industry for the benefit of the genuine players and consumers here today. Finance Minister Indira Hirdayesh was the chief guest along with Chief Secretary N Ravishankar on the occasion.
Anil Taneja, resident director of the PHDCCI, said this was high time that all stake holders be facilitated by the administration so that the sanctity and legitimacy of this age-old system be upheld.
In his welcome address, SP Kochhar, chairman of the chamber, Uttarakhand, stated that performance of this sector was hampered by the multiplicity of regulatory mechanism which resulted in a tedious and complicated policy framework, because of which the process of setting up pan-India supply chain and manufacturing was constrained, hindering for the smooth performance of this sector.
The multi agency clearance and regulatory framework is overlapped by rules and regulations at district, state and central level. He said the direct selling was a state subject and Uttarakhand should become the third state after Kerala and Rajasthan to issue guidelines to regulate the activities of the industry.
The Finance Minister expressed her gratitude to the direct selling industry for providing employment opportunities to the general public.
She also acknowledged the need of regulating the industry in the interest of consumers and assured that the administration would initiate a process to understand the subject in depth and based on the suggestions of the experts from industry and legislation will do the needful.
