The recently inaugurated project work of laying water supply lines under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme is moving at a fast pace in several wards of the city. The work has been started in two constituencies and will begin in the third constituency soon.
The water pipes are being laid in Ward Number 12 (Sahnewal constituency) and Ward Number 4 (East constituency), while water pipes have arrived in Ward Number 58 (West constituency) where work will start shortly.
The officials claimed that they will complete the work in a given time period.
MC Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said: “After the formal inauguration, we have started laying the water pipes in different areas. We are also finalising its second phase for the construction of 28 Over Head Service Reservoirs (OSHR).”
He said the overall time limit for the project is 12 months, but where roads are to be constructed under the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB), the work will be completed in two months.
Notably, 46,000 households in 25 wards of the city under this project will have potable water supply.
Around 32 tube wells will be constructed for the supply of water in these localities. Also, the procedure to allot works under the second phase is in final stage.
The total cost of the project is Rs 92.70 crore, but in the first phase, works worth Rs 70 crore would take place, as the construction of OSHR would take place later on.
Tenders have been allocated to Tirupati Cement Products, Maverick Developers and Colonizers Private Limited, Jaipur and RK Builders, Bathinda.
