The 200th birth anniversary of late Satguru Ram Singh was celebrated at a state-level function in Bhaini Sahib today.

Satguru Uday Singh, Cabinet Ministers and Vidhan Sabha Speaker attended the event, while Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal skipped the function reportedly due to some illness.

Speaker Charanjit Atwal said late Satguru Ram Singh started the non-cooperation movement that Mahatma Gandhi also took part in. He lauded Satguru Ram Singh for raising his voice against the English rulers. Satguru boycotted the English and appealed to all to oppose the social evils of the time. Atwal lauded the Kuka martyrs for their role in the freedom struggle.

Satguru Uday Singh appealed to all to follow the path and teachings of Satguru Ram Singh and live in social harmony. Ragi Jathas sang kirtan and a bhog was also held.

Cabinet Minister Sharanjit Dhillon, MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, BJP state president Kamal Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
