Ludhiana, August 19
Maulana Habib-ur-Rehman Ludhianvi, Shahi Imam of Punjab, reportedly received a threat from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) here today.
The Shahi Imam alleged that the threatening letter came from Pakistan as the style in which the text had been written was not Indian.
In the wee hours today, the Shahi Imam — as he was about to leave for Jama Masjid — found an envelope lying outside his house
He took the envelope and went to the mosque. After the prayers, he read the letter.
The letter, in Persian script, reads, “We read your statement against Pakistan on July 29. Our enemies often do such rubbish things, but such statements by a Muslim damage the image of Pakistan. You are a traitor of Islam. Be ready. The news of your death will be published in newspapers very soon.”
The Shahi Iman said, “I do not fear these threats. We were opposed to the creation of Pakistan in 1947 and will always be against Pakistan. We are Indian nationalists and no such threat can change our mind. We can sacrifice our lives for the nation.”
The Shahi Imam had given a statement against Pakistan after the Dinanagar attack. He had asked Narendra Modi to teach Pakistan a lesson.
The city police have registered a case against unidentified persons at police station division no. 3. Rajesh Kumar, SHO, said, “We have beefed up the security of the Shahi Imam. The police department has already provided seven security guards to him. The police, along with other security agencies, will investigate the matter.”
