Ludhiana, October 31
The Excise and Taxation Department has extended the last date for e-filing of quarterly returns of Value Added Tax (VAT).
The date has been extended to November 5 from October 30 as some technical changes were made in the forms by the department.
Traders and tax professionals have heaved a sigh of relief after the extension of the date. Quarterly return for July-September is to be filed now.
“Tax professionals were busy in the filing of service-tax return, TDS return and income-tax return. The extension in date has come as a relief to us. After getting a few more days, things will become easy to handle,” said Jatinder Khurana, state president of Indian Taxation Advocates’ Association.
City based hosiery trader Gagan Sehgal said this was the busiest time of the year due to festive season.
“I was not getting time to look into the accounts. Now that we have six more days to file the quarterly VAT return, I will do the things in time to avoid penalty,” said Sehgal.
Another trader hailing the decision of the department said they had been demanding to extend the date from the department which had finally been accepted. Things would become easy now as everybody was busy due to the festival season, he said.
