The traffic police are going to launch a special drive in the state for strict enforcement of law regarding wearing of helmet by two-wheeler riders.

Even the pillion rider of a two-wheeler would be required to wear a helmet and the violation would result in imposition of fine under relevant section of the Motor Vehicles Act.

During the drive if the traffic police intercept a two-wheeler with the main rider or the pillion rider without helmet, then both the main rider and the pillion rider will be subjected to the road safety education and counselling for not less than two hours before imposition of fine as prescribed in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

A person not having a driving licence will not be allowed to drive a two-wheeler and the two-wheeler will be handed over only to a person duly authorised by the owner of the vehicle having a valid driving licence, failing which the vehicle will be impounded under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The traffic police have also issued instructions that in case a person having a learner’s licence is driving a two-wheeler with a pillion rider who is without a valid driving licence then the main rider (driver) would be booked under Section 3/181 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, read with Rule 3 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1988.
