Special task force today nabbed a Ludhiana policeman with 51 gram of heroin. The suspect has been identified as Amandeep Singh (27), a resident of Onkar Vihar, Sector 32. He was posted as senior constable at the Police Lines.

Amandeep has been dismissed from police service, said Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal.

The STF in-charge, Inspector Harbans Singh, said while patrolling the area near Amber Garden in Jamalpur, he got information that a policeman, Amandeep, was into heroin smuggling and he was on the way to supply drugs to his clients in his car at Sarpanch Colony, Jamalpur.

The STF set up a naka and nabbed Amandeep with the heroin.

During preliminary questioning, the suspect confessed that he joined Punjab police in 2010 and was posted as senior constable at the Police Lines. He admitted that he had been absent from duty for the past over one month. He procured the heroin from a smuggler who lived in Jamalpur.

The suspect also admitted that he was a drug addict and he had been into drug peddling for the past over seven years.

The STF in-charge said they would seek police remand of the suspect so that the entire drug racket could be busted.
