A large number of government schoolteachers', under the banner of the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha, burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in Tarn Taran on Friday.
Addressing the protesters, Balkar Singh Valtoha and Jarmanjit Singh, state leaders of the morcha, flayed the state government for "not accepting the genuine demands of the teachers" working under different categories, including RMSA, SSA, computer teachers, etc.
They said the government didn't regularise the services of 5,178 teachers, who had completed their three-year term on a consolidated salary of Rs 10,000 per month. "The state government has ordered us to work for three more years on the same salary. It is a matter of great concern for us," they said.
