Former Delhi Commission for Women chairperson and Congress leader Barkha Singh joined the BJP today. She said during the past five years the Congress leadership had totally lost contact with the people.
“For long I was feeling suffocated in the party with no forum available to express my views which ultimately resulted in my quitting the Congress. Like most people of the country, I have realized that the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of composite development for all fulfil the aspiration of the people and so I have decided to unconditionally join the BJP”, said Barkha Singh.
Addressing a press conference after joining the saffron party, she said, “I will work at the grass-root level in the party to ensure that the benefits of Prime Minister’s schemes reach the poorest of poor.”
She joined the BJP in presence of Union Minister Vijay Goel and BJP national vice-president Shyam Jaju.
Speaking on the occasion, Vijay Goel said, “Barkha had a long experience of working for causes of the women and I hope her joining will strengthen the team within the BJP working for women empowerment.”
Shyam Jaju said all over the country people are voting for the BJP with great hopes of development and the BJP governments are working hard to meet people’s aspirations. He welcomed the joining of Barkha in the party and said, “We are happy that she has chosen to work for the BJP at grass-root level.”
