Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Tayab, along with environmentalists Kuldip Sardana and Malkiat Singh Ragbotra, and Phagwara SDM Sumit Mudh planted saplings at various places here during the 'Teej' and 'Van Mahotsav' celebrations.

The DC told people to grow more trees. But their maintenance was more important than planting. He also stressed on the need for rainwater harvesting to save water.

Teej and "Van Mahotsav were also celebrated at the Kamla Nehru College for Women on its premises.

The Deputy Commissioner was the chief guest on the occasion. The event was organised by the postgraduate department of Punjabi and the Phagwara Environment Association under the Tandarust Punjab mission.

The DC planted a sapling on the college premises. A cultural programme was also organised by students, depicting the rich Punjabi culture.

Educationist Inder Sardana, Om Uppal, Phagwara Environment Association president Kuldip Sardana and general secretary Malkiat Singh Ragbotra also addressed the students and encouraged them to grow trees.
