SRINAGAR, JUNE 10

A young Kashmiri author’s collection of short stories will be published by HarperCollins. It is expected to reach the markets by mid-2016.

South Asia’s top literary agent Kanishka Gupta of Writer’s Side Literary Agency has sold the rights of author Shahnaz Bashir’s collection of interlinked stories ‘Scattered Souls’ to Fourth Estate, the prestigious international imprint of HarperCollins. The collection will be published first in hardback by HarperCollins India by mid-2016.

Shahnaz Bashir is the author of the critically acclaimed novel ‘The Half Mother’. He teaches narrative journalism and conflict reporting at the Central University of Kashmir.

“The book had received offers from three top literary publishers, but we decided to go with HarperCollins’ Fourth Estate,” said agent Kanishka.
