Performances based on Garhwali and Kumaoni folk culture held the audience spellbound during the annual function of Mahila Maha Vidyalya, Sati Kund, Kankha, here today.

Earlier, Haridwar rural MLA Swami Yatishwaranand inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp in the presence of secretary, Mahila Maha Vidyalya, Veena Shastri.

Secretary, Haridwar-Roorkee Development Authority, Nidhi Yadav emphasied on providing education to girls.

Principal, Mool Chand Shastri Vidhyapeeth, Ashok Shastri said with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the Beti Bachao Beti Padao scheme, the focus had once again shifted to improving the lot of the girl child.

Ganesh Vandana, patriotic-theme based dance presentation, a Garhwali folk dance and a skit highlighting the plight of terror-affected areas were appreciated by the audience.
