Dengue cases still pouring in

CHANDIGARH:The tricity and its surrounding areas today reported 45 fresh cases of dengue and 11 of chikungunya.

The tricity and its surrounding areas today reported 45 fresh cases of dengue and 11 of chikungunya. Out of these, 33 fresh cases of dengue and 11 of chikungunya were reported from the Mohali district today taking the total number of dengue cases in the district to 1,503 and of chikungunya to 56. Chandigarh reported 12 new cases of dengue from various health institutions, which brings the total number of dengue cases to 619 in the city. No fresh case of chikungunya was reported from the city today. 

Giving information, Dr Ranjit Kaur Guru, Civil Surgeon, Mohali, said a total number of 52 samples were tested for dengue today and another 26 samples were tested for chikungunya.

Meanwhile, health officials said in order to further strengthen the preventive activities, daily fumigation was being carried out along with strengthening of field activities which includeed mass awareness, checking of breeding sources like coolers, containers, tyres and other sources.
