Sangrur, February 27

A retired boxing coach and a close relative of former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, was today killed in a hit-and-run accident in Sunam.

The victim, Ishar Singh, was out on a morning walk near his residence in Bishanpura area around 6 am when an unidentified vehicle hit him from behind near Nurmahal Ashram. The police have registered a case against the unidentified driver.

Narain Singh, SHO, Sunam Sadar, said: “The victim’s head was badly crushed. He was identified from his clothes by a security guard who used to see him daily. We have started investigating the matter.”

Bhattal’s son Rahul Inder Sidhu said the deceased was working an OSD to his mother. “He trained hundreds of boxers till his retirement in 2008. Many have won medals at the national and international levels. The cremation will take place tomorrow,” he said.
