SAD candidate from Jagraon constituency, Amarjit Kaur Sahoke (42), is getting an unexpected support from her family.
Her relatives from the US, too, have landed in India to devote time for campaigning.Amarjit, who is a chairperson of Zila Parishad from Bilaspur, Moga and a resident of Moga, is contesting the Assembly elections for the first time.
She is also the president of Istri Akali Dal and her husband Bhupinder Singh is a president of SC/ST wing of SAD. Her two sons — Rupinder Singh Sahoke and Narinder Singh Sahoke — are turning out to be a great help for her. Rupinder had especially come from the US to help his mother in campaigning, while Narinder, who is studying in Class 12, has also been spreading a word about her mother to gain votes. Her brother’s wife Manpreet Kaur Sahota, who is also a US citizen, has also arrived in India to give more wings to the campaign. All family members have been doing a parallel campaign in the area. Her sons are running a separate campaign by forming groups of youths.
“I have come all the way from the US to campaign for my mom, and I will leave no stone unturned in ensuring her victory. I have been apprising people about the development the SAD-BJP government has done in the past 10 years and people are also being made aware of the SAD manifesto that consists of tonnes of plans for the welfare of all sections of people,” Rupinder said. Amarjit said her family members were a real morale booster and source of energy for her. “My family members are visiting areas where I cannot visit. We hardly meet in the day, except in the morning and night when we discuss the campaign strategy for the next day,” she said.
