The nine-member committee formed by the Municipal Corporation (MC) to finalise the method of terminating the agreement with the Jaypee Group today decided that the successor company will pay a salvage value of Rs 30 crore to its predecessor.

The MC had already decided to part ways with the Jaypee Group in connection with the garbage processing plant at Dadu Majra. The civic body is going to set up waste-to-energy plant after terminating the contract with Jaypee Group.

In the meeting, officials of the Jaypee Group and the successor company — the Mars Group —were also present. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Arun Sood.

The MC is to submit its reply before the National Green Tribunal (NGT), New Delhi, on October 1. In the last hearing, the NGT had asked the MC and the Jaypee Group to settle their dispute as early as possible.

In the meeting, Senior Deputy Mayor Davesh Moudgil, one of the members of the committee, proposed to impose penalty on the Jaypee Group. He said he was with Mayor Arun Sood to stop dumping of garbage at the dumping ground in Dadu Majra and for processing of garbage at the plant, but the penalty should be imposed on the Jaypee Group.

Earlier, the Jaypee Group had shut the plant on July 11. Later, the MC moved the Shimla Bench of the NGT. The tribunal then directed the Jaypee Group to resume work at the plant by July 27. In November last year, the MC House had rejected an agenda for providing tipping charges to the Jaypee Group for processing garbage.

Recently, Mayor Arun Sood and MC Commissioner B Purushartha had visited a waste-to-energy plant set up by the Mars Group in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh.
