Ludhiana: A series of workshops was organised at Nankana Sahib Public School (NSPS), Gill Park, for the teachers of all its 11 branches. A workshop on ‘English to be taught as language and not as a subject’ was conducted, wherein the host school’s principal and resource person Harmeet Kaur Waraich spoke at length on the subject. She said stress should be laid on making students understand the basic structure of English grammar. Rote learning should be avoided. Emphasising on the need for well-prepared lectures, Waraich said, “Never go unprepared in the class. There is a daily classroom-testing of teachers by the students. If the students ask you questions or have any queries, they should be encouraged and pacified with a proper answer. Sometimes teachers snub such students and thus become a hurdle in developing their creativity. We should not kill creativity among students. The classroom teaching should not only be bookish but an integrated one.” A workshop for science and mathematics teachers was held on the second day. Harpreet Singh, principal of NSPS, Kalal Majra, was the resource person for science workshop. He stressed on linking teaching and practical knowledge. He said cramming of facts should be discouraged. The teachers from all the eleven branches, including NSPS Samrala, Kalal Majra, Kot Gangu Rai, Khasi Kalan, Fatehgarh Jattan, Khasi Kalan, Isru, Bhudewal, Kila Raipur, Amargarh (Rampur Channa), Rampur and Gill Park, participated in these workshops.
