The Yogananda College of Engineering and Technology (YCET) organised a guest lecture on “Aggregates for mortar and concrete” delivered by Amit Pandita, Technical Head Ambuja (P) Ltd.
The session began with welcome addresses by Rajnish Magotra from the Civil Engineering Department and BR Verma, Dean, Academic Affairs, YCET.
Amit Pandita briefed the students about the significance of aggregates in mortar and concrete. He said 75 per cent of the structure contains aggregates with only 7-8 per cent cement.
“So it is very essential to know the characteristics of good aggregates for building and other allied civil engineering works. Shape, size and texture of aggregates do matter in the construction work,” he added.
Amit Pandita interacted with students. He stated that now is the age of ready mix concrete (RMC), which is fully balanced concrete and withstands pressure under any weathering conditions.
In the closing session, a video film was shown on the construction of mega structures around the world.
The students took keen interest in the session and asked questions related to aggregates. The session ended with the vote of thanks by Dinesh Gupta from the Applied Sciences Department, while Iqbal Singh Ahluwalia coordinated the session.
