Residents of Baiyanpur village in the district on Friday held a demonstration outside the Mini-Secretariat here in protest against registration of cases against them for allegedly trashing employees of the power corporation on Monday.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, the villagers alleged that as the employees were not in uniform, they could not be recognised by women when raided houses to check power theft.

It was also alleged that the employees also sought bribe and entered the houses by climbing over the boundary walls. They refuted the allegation of thrashing the employees, including a junior engineer.

Demanding an inquiry into the incident by the Sonepat SDM, they said that police personnel must accompany the teams while conducting raids against power theft.
