Govt okays food street at Town Hall

AMRITSAR: The state government is all set to come up with a food street at Town Hall.

The state government is all set to come up with a food street at Town Hall. The responsibility of the same has been handed over to the Punjab Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs.

Officials said demolition was under way and after reconstruction, an eatery hub would be established. It is expected to be completed in 2020.

Hotelier Ranbir Singh said, “Chances of its finding success are more as the site is situated at the Heritage Street, about 200 metre away from the Golden Temple. Tourists coming to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple will have an opportunity to enjoy the famous Amritsari cuisines.

Earlier, an attempt was made to set up a replica of the Lahore’s food street at the Urban Haat, which was raised at the abandoned 124-year-old Government Victoria Jubilee Memorial Hospital. The Urban Haat has about 30 vends, including half of these food joints come with a kitchen for gourmet’s delight.

Spread over 4.5 acres, the Urban Haat has a provision of an open air theatre, surrounded by fountains with lighting effects and ample parking lot with two-side opening. There are eight suites, guest rooms and dormitories to accommodate visiting artistes and troupes.
