In the upcoming Assembly elections, 1.83 crore voters will exercise their franchise. To increase voting percentage, a special campaign for creating awareness about EVMs and VVPAT machines will be launched by the office of the Haryana Chief Electoral Officer.

This information was given in a review meeting on preparations for the Assembly elections organised by the Election Commission of India (ECI) here on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Senior Deputy Election Commissioner, ECI, Sandeep Saxena. Director General (Election Expenditure), ECI, Dilip Sharma, was present.

Saxena directed officials to make special arrangements for disabled voters to enable them to vote. He directed the officials to keep a check on election expenditure. He said webcasting should be carried out on more than 10 per cent polling booths.

He said to increase voting percentage, activities under the SVEEP campaign should be increased. The police were directed to set up police check-posts in districts sharing borders with adjoining states. He directed officials to hold meetings with officials of such states.

Haryana Chief Electoral Officer, Anurag Aggarwal, said a special campaign was being run to make women voters and college students aware so that they could exercise their franchise.
