The Congress has made the election interesting by fielding women candidates from Sadhaura and Yamunanagar Assembly segments of Yamunanagar district.
The party has fielded Renu Bala (39), chairperson of zila parishad, from Sadhaura (reserved) Assembly segment. She will give a straight fight to sitting BJP MLA Balwant Singh.
From Yamunanagar Assembly segment, the Congress has given ticket to Nirmal Chauhan (46), who is a municipal councillor from Yamunanagar-Jagadhri.
There will be a triangular fight at this seat between sitting MLA and BJP candidate Ghanshyam Dass Arora, INLD’s Dilbag Singh and Congress candidate Nirmal Chauhan. Renu Bala and Nirmal Chauhan are contesting Assembly elections for the first time.
According to information, Renu Bala belongs to the Scheduled Caste category, but she won the election of zila parishad chairperson from the general category in 2016. She is not a new face in the Sadhaura segment as she has been active in politics in this segment for long.
Similarly, Nirmal Chauhan is also a popular face in Yamunanagar as she has been running women self-help groups (55 at present) for years. She has been municipal councillor for two consecutive terms.
The Congress has fielded former BSP MLA Akram Khan from the Jagadhri Assembly segment, from where Assembly Speaker Kanwar Pal Gurjar is contesting the election on BJP ticket. There will be a triangular contest between the Congress, BJP and BSP candidate Adarsh Pal Singh Gurjar.
In the Radaur Assembly constituency, the Congress has given ticket to former Jagadhri BSP MLA Bishan Lal Saini. There will be straight fight between the Congress nominee and BJP candidate Karan Dev Kamboj, who became MLA on BJP ticket from the Indri Assembly segment of Karnal district in 2014.
