urukshetra, February 1

Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma today said former Deputy Chief Minister Dr Mangal Sein was a rare politician, who was committed to work for the common man.

At an inaugural seminar on ‘Dr Mangal Sein and the Punjab and Haryana Vidhan Sabha 1957-1990’ at Kurukshetra University here, Sharma said Sein represented the Rohtak Assembly segment for seven times and lived with austerity.

“Sein did not own any property and no one from his family or relative was promoted by him in politics. It was only his direct connect with the masses that made him win seven times,” said the minister. Recalling his close association with Sein, Sharma said the leader never compromised on his principles.

“The then Chief Minister Hukum Singh once offered to provide Sein with a residential plot at a housing cooperative society at reasonable prices. Sein outrightly declined the offer saying that public money should not be spent like this,” he said.
