The Bhiwani police today arrested Vinod Mitathal, one of the most-wanted and dreaded criminals, and one of his accomplices from Churu district in Rajasthan. Over 48 criminal cases are registered against Vinod in Haryana and Rajasthan and there is a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head. He is absconding for the past nine years.
Bhiwani SP Ganga Ram Punia said that a joint team of the anti-vehicle theft and the cyber cell on specific inputs started an operation with the help of the Rajasthan Police and nabbed Vinod from Dudlasar village in Rajasthan. His accomplice Praveen was also arrested.
The police said that Vinod was staying in a thatched hut on the outskirts of Dudlasar village. He was hiding in a cell constructed underneath the hut, which has a room and a toilet. The SP said that there was no exchange of fire as the raiding team overpowered the duo in the cell.
The Bhiwani police had announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head while the Rohtak and Jhajjar police had declared Rs 50,000 each. The police recovered three 9 mm pistols, six cartridges and nine cartridges of .315 bore gun.
During preliminary interrogation, Vinod confessed to having committed nine crimes while on parole and after jumping parole. He along with his accomplices had allegedly kidnapped and killed Dr KL Bawa in 2016. He was also involved in the kidnapping of Hanuman Prasad, a trader, in 2018, snatching of a Hyundai Creta car from the Biran-Bapora road in 2019 and in an attempt to murder case.
