Sonepat dist becoming liquor smugglers’ haven

A team from the Rai police station seized 1,077 boxes of illicit liquor from the premises of Happy Hatchery Farm at Mukeempur village in the district late Monday evening.

The team also seized five liquor-loaded vehicles, including three cars. Three persons, identified as Naresh of Khewra village in the district and Vipin and Sonu from Gaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, were arrested.

SHO Kuldeep Deswal said the seized stock was not marked for sale in Haryana.

A team of the Chief Minister Flying squad from Rohtak seized 638 boxes of illicit liquor loaded in five vehicles from Pai village in the district on Sunday night last week.

Similarly, an STF team seized 648 halves of different liquor brands, a tank filled with 500 litre of liquor, empty stock of 630 bottles, 2,100 halves and eight bags of empty quarters, a large stock of sealing machine and rolls, labels, covers and other material from a bottling plant from Baiyanpur village in the district the same night.

Sonepat continues to be a favourite transit station for liquor smugglers of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh because of its geographical location. Large stock of illicit liquor has been seized and a bottling plant of spurious liquor has been uinearthed in the district in the recent days.
