A 24-year-old local Hindu girl has approached the police, accusing a Muslim man of faking his identity as Hindu, marrying and impregnating her and later abandoning her.

The victim claimed that she got to know about the man only when she demanded the registration of their marriage. The accused fled from the place, saying he was a Muslim and couldn’t have a Hindu wife. Claiming to be a victim of love jihad, she sought help of some Hindu outfits, who helped her in getting Mohit arrested.

As per the victim’s complaint, an FIR was registered against the accused and his brother under Sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC at the Sector 14 police station.

The victim hails from Rajasthan and had been living with her father near Pataudi Chowk for the past eight months. She worked in the placement agency of the accused, identified as Vikas Sharma, alias Bilal Ahmed, and his brother Mohit Sharma, alias Dildar.

“It was in January that Mohit raped me. When I threatened to go to the police, his brother Vikas promised to marry me and give a good respectable life. He took me to Jaipur and married me in a temple.”

We started living as husband and wife in Gurugram and I got pregnant. I asked Vikas to get our marriage registered and he started avoiding the issue. When I insisted, he told me he was a Muslim and could not have a Hindu wife. He then thrashed me and fled on September 11. I waited for many days and then went to my old office and questioned Mohit, but he threatened to kill me. In a rage, he told me they both were Muslims and revealed their real names,” the victim said in her complaint.

Today, the victim went to the Civil Hospital for her medical examination where doctors confirmed her pregnancy. She was produced in a city court for recording her statement under Section 164 of the CrPC where she reportedly repeated her claim.
