Chandigarh, July 21

Tricity residents should brace for heavy rain as the monsoon is expected to get active after July 23.

The Met Department has forecast heavy rain on July 24 and 25. In fact, the last week of July is expected to get good rain in the city.

The next two days are expected to see light to moderate rain. Three will be a marginal increase in the humidity and heat. Today, the city saw 65-75 per cent humidity. With no effective rain for the past few days, the maximum temperature increased by two degrees.

The maximum temperature today was 35°C. Yesterday, it was 33°C. “The past few days haven’t been too cloudy. However, the monsoon will get active again and there is a forecast of heavy rain on July 24 and 25,” said a Met official.

Already, the first half of July has witnessed record rainfall in the past nine years. From July 1 to 15, the city recorded 246.9 mm of rainfall. Before this, it was way back in 2010 that the city had witnessed more rain, 299.1 mm, during this period.

There will be light rain during the next two days, but the monsoon activity will increase after July 23. Heavy rain is likely on July 24 and 25. The last week of the month is expected to see good rainfall.— Surender Paul, Chandigarh Met Director
