MC assigns duties for tackling waterlogging

To resolve the sewerage problem during the rainy season, the MCB has assigned duties to MCB officials in eight zones in the city.
In every zone, eight people have been deputed. Municipal Corporation XEN, JE, sanitary inspector, Sewerage Board SDO, JE, Triveni company supervisor and other sanitation staff will be responsible for resolving waterlogging problem in the zones during rains.
MCB officials are claiming that the civic body is fully prepared to tackle any kind of situation during rains.
The desilting work is set to start again and teams have been deputed at zone level to monitor the situation, they said.
The Sewerage Board will conduct desilting of sewer lines, which include 1,500 m at Bhatti road, 1,890 m at Thandi Sadak in Railway Colony, 2,000 m at Bibiwala road, 800 m at Amrik Singh road, 412 m from Multania road to Lal Singh Nagar, 700 m in Paras Ram Nagar, 1,000 m at Ajit road, 1,000 m at Old Thana road, 1,200 m in Balraj Nagar, 1,000 m at Naruana road, 1,000 m from Guru Nanak Nagar to grain market.
After a report sent by the Water Supply and Sewerage Board to the Municipal Commissioner over the sewerage situation during rains, the ground level work will start on it by Monday.
However, the Weather Department has predicted rains from July 21 to 25, due to which the MCB and Sewerage Board may face problems in completing the desilting work.
In the report, the Sewerage Board has stated about conducting desilting of 11 roads in the city.
The board has also recommended shifting out dairies from residential areas and imposing complete ban on the use of plastic bags in the city.
The Sewerage Board has also stated, “We won’t get any benefit of cleaning the sewerage lines till the time around 300 dairies, which are running inside the city limits, are not shifted out.”
The board has recommended strict action against the dairy owners for the second time in the past two years.
Earlier in 2016, the MCB had issued notices to the dairy owners stating to give licences to the dairy owners and to construct three pits before releasing waste into the sewerage.
