21 accused get police remand; 3 more held

MANDI: The local court has awarded three-day police remand to 17 accused and one-day remand to four in the elderly woman assault case in Sarkaghat.

The local court has awarded three-day police remand to 17 accused and one-day remand to four in the elderly woman assault case in Sarkaghat. On November 6, some religious fanatics of Samahal village assaulted the victim.

The police arrested three more accused today who will be produced before the court. The accused had termed the victim sorceress.

During investigation, it came to light that it was not the first case in this village. Earlier also, they had ransacked the house of one retired teacher. But the matter was not reported to the police.

The inaction by the police was also under the scanner. Superintendent of Police Gurdev Chand Sharma has also marked an inquiry into the role of police officials in the episode.

The SP said 24 accused had been arrested in the case.The victim had been provided security. The Kardar Sangh also demanded stern action against the accused. — TNS
