CITU today accused the Indira Gandhi Medical College administration of giving a free hand to the private contractor who has violated the terms of the agreement by not appointing at least 50 persons for ensuring security of patients of the state hospital.

Addressing a press conference here today, CITU president Vijender Mehra alleged the contractor was being protected by the IGMC administration. The contractor has committed financial irregularities that run into a crore of rupees. He was supposed to appoint 187 persons for security at the IGMC, but appointed only 137 people for the security of the patients, staff of doctors, nurses, students and the visitors, Mehra claimed.

Mehra alleged that the contractor was saving Rs 48 lakh every year by employing lesser people. He had not deposited Rs 12.11 lakh in ESIC account of the staff and also has not deposited EPF fund worth Rs 21.54 lakh in the accounts of the employees.

Mehra has demand a judicial probe into the issue. “We are writing a letter to the Chief Justice of the high court to bring culprits to book”, he claimed.
