Mandi, April 1
The BJP has appointed Brigadier Khushal Thakur (Retd) as co-in charge of the Mandi election campaign committee. The move is seen as damage control to consolidate the votes of ex-servicemen and their families in favour of the BJP in Lok Sabha election.
Kargil war hero Brigadier Khushal Thakur was in the race for ticket from Mandi but the BJP did not give him chance. The BJP fielded its sitting MP Ramswaroop Sharma from Mandi again which irked the supporters of the Brigadier. They challenged the BJP to get ready to face the music.
It troubled the party and since then the leadership was trying to placate the disgruntled Kargil War hero.
Khushal Thakur is fighting for the rights of the four-lane affected people in the state, who had lost their commercial and residential properties for the project. Due to that, his influence among the masses cannot be ignored and the BJP want no stone unturned to get his support to win the election.
Sources told The Tribune that Ramswaroop Sharma held a secret meeting with Khushal Thakur at his residence a few days ago to seek his support.
