A multi-crore Academic Block-II building, constructed by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), is ready to be handed over to the Government Polytechnic, Kangra. However, it awaits a departmental inspection, thus delaying the process of handing it over.

The building, ready in all aspects, has been completed with an initial estimate cost of Rs 5.54 crore. Its foundation stone was laid by the then Technical Education Minister GS Bali in 2016.

Sources said an inspection committee had been formed, comprising of Dr PP Sharma and Deepak Bansal, both professors of Electrical and Civil Engineering Department of Rajiv Gandhi Government Engineering College, Nagrota Bagwan, Anil Sood, principal of Government Polytechnic, Kangra, representatives of the BSNL and the contractor concerned.

The team has now pushed the inspection date to September 11, 2019, for reasons best known to them. The polytechnic is in dire need of this building, which is lying locked since months. The reason for the delay in the inspection and subsequent handing over of the building to the college management is yet to be known.
