Hospitality industry revs up security

CHANDIGARH:In accordance with the UT Administration’s guidelines and complying with the recommendations given by the Chandigarh Police in yesterday’s meeting, city-based clubs, pubs, restaurants and microbreweries have revved up their security arrangements for the New Year celebrations.

In accordance with the UT Administration’s guidelines and complying with the recommendations given by the Chandigarh Police in yesterday’s meeting, city-based clubs, pubs, restaurants and microbreweries have revved up their security arrangements for the New Year celebrations.

While some hospitality service providers have increased the number of bouncers, others have installed metal detectors to ensure no weapons are allowed inside party dens. A number of these New Year celebration hosts have even tied up with cab providers to accommodate a convenient commute for drunken party hoppers.

As per the police report, New Year will be celebrated at 115 places in the city, including the Sector 17 Plaza, Elante Mall, Aroma, hotels/clubs located on Madhya Marg, hotels of Sector 35, 43 and 22, Chandigarh Club, Golf Club and hotels in the Industrial Area Phase II, Chandigarh.

On New Year’s Eve last year, a total of 203 people were fined for drunken driving at traffic check points and the UT police patrolled a total of 286 spots attending to 100 calls of quarrel, 39 of noise pollution, 37 for creating nuisance at public places and 36 related to accidents.

At Tamzara Kafe and Club in the Industrial Area Phase I here, Dheeraj Kumar said about 10 to 15 bouncers had been deputed at the entrance, on the floor and other areas of the club.

“We have deputed four women bouncers and installed metal detectors to ensure the safety guests. Also, we are not allowing stag entry (entry of a single man). Besides, we have also tied up with Uber asking them to deploy at least 10 of their cabs around the area to assist our drunken guests,” he said.

At S Lounge, Sector 26, CCTV cameras have been installed inside and outside the club. “We have three deputed bouncers, including a woman bouncer. We have a strict no-stag entry policy,” said Manoj Kumar, assistant manager of the club.

Satva, which is also located in Sector 26, has tied up with a neighbouring taxi stand to provide pick-and-drop service to its guests. Meena Jamwal, front office manager, said: “We have 5 male bouncers and one female bouncer. Along with providing our guests with valet parking, we have tied up with cabs at the taxi stand in Sector 26”.

MOBE (Ministry of Bar Exchange) has bought an alcoholmeter, said its manager Sarvesh Sharma. “We have metal detector, HD CCTV cameras, chauffeur facility and about 15 bouncers, including 5 women bouncers,” said Sarvesh.

F Bar, which is looking to host as many as 150 guests, has also deployed some eight bouncers and a metal detector.

“Apart from that, we also check visitors’ IDs and take their mobile phone numbers in case something happens,” said Pardeep Singh Rana, chief operating officer.

In Sector 35, Peddlers too has tied up with Ola and Uber to check the menace of drunken driving. Vinod Rajput, general manager, said: “We have a chauffeur-driven car facility too. Six bouncers, including two women bouncers, have also been deputed.”
