On the second day of the ongoing ‘Sangeet Utsav’, organised by Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi to provide a platform to the local artistes, noted sarangi exponent Vinod Pawar, disciple of legendary late Ustad Sultan Khan, presented sarangi recital at the Navrang Theatre in Bal Bhavan here on Monday.
Accompanied by Rajnish Dhiman on tabla, Vinod Pawar commenced the recital with a detailed alaap of raga ‘Puriya kalyan’ which melted into a slow paced (vilmbat) composition (gat) set to ek tal. He played a fast-paced composition (drut lya) in teen tal.
He also presented raga ‘Des’ through a brief alaap, followed by a medium-paced composition (madhya lya gat) based on legendary Ustad Amir Khan’s classic’ Barsan Lagi Badarva’.
Chief guest Sudesh Sharma, vice-chairman, Haryana Kala Parishad, and CSNA chairman Kamal Arora honoured the artistes and disclosed that the utsav would conclude with a performance by illustrious classical vocalist Pandit Kumar Gaurav Kohli on Tuesday.
