The week-long Independence Day celebrations started with a cultural programme by students of nursery to class II at Dayanand Public School, Shimla.



The week-long Independence Day celebrations started with a cultural programme by students of nursery to class II at Dayanand Public School, Shimla. A dance performance by nursery students and depiction of religious diversity of the country and fancy dress on the theme of unity in diversity by KG students were the main highlight. Students of classes I and II recited poems, delivered speeches and presented a dance. 

Talk on cancer diagnosis  

The health club of St Bede’s College gave a presentation on “Early Detection of Breast Cancer” by  Dr Vikas Fotedar, assistant professor, department of radiation and member of tumour board, IGMC, Shimla. Dr Fotedar told the students about the rise in the number of breast cancer cases. He also talked about the symptoms, causes, inheritance, precautions and cures of breast cancer. Techniques and procedures on self-examination on a regular basis were also demonstrated by Dr Fotedar. He concluded his presentation by stating that breast cancer was curable and the doctor must be consulted as early as possible.   

Tourney kicks off 

The U-14 tournament of Senior Secondary School started at Government Senior Secondary School, Dhgha. As many as 

356 players from 39 schools are participating in the tournament. MLA Narender Thakur  inaugurated the tournament. He gave Rs 11,000 to the school.
