The Shimla Nagrik Sabha on Tuesday termed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order as “anti-public and un-implementable” as it had come as a setback to house owners of the city and its peripheries. The government should challenge the NGT order in the Supreme Court, sabha demanded.
In a statement issued here, the president of the nagrik sabha stated that the NGT order banning new construction in the core and old areas of the city was unconstitutional, as many houses built during the British time were in a dilapidated condition.
Most of these buildings had five to six storey and the NGT was allowing only two-and-half, and this would render them homeless, Mehra claimed.
Mehra demanded that allowing just two-and-half storey would result in sharp hike in rents and that would make living of the middle and lower-middle class unaffordable. The state government should move the Supreme Court against the NGT order, sabha demanded.
