Encroachment, shortage of parking cause of traffic woes

Encroachments and lack of parking lots are the major problems in Ravi Das Basti (Ward No. 8) in the Kankhal area.
The problem exists in all major colonies of the ward, including Gayatri Lok, Bairagi Camp, Ravi Das Basti, Sanyas Road, Pahadi Bazaar, Damkoti, Lodha Mandi, Indu Enclave, Geeta Mandir, Durga Mandir and the Raj Rajeshwaram Ashram area.
The road that connects Pahadi Bazaar police station with Shankaracharya Square is dotted with encroachments, thus making the stretch narrower for commuters. It leads to frequent traffic jams here.
The area houses a considerable number of seers, so the influx of pilgrims and tourists everyday is a common sight.
Ward councillor Seema Devi says she has raised this issue with the Municipal Corporation as well as and public representatives, but no one pays a heed. She said barring these issues, other problems of the area had been solved with the installation of LED street lights in the last three years, recarpeting and widening of roads in Ravi Das Basti and the Geeta Mandir-Gayatri Lok stretch.
The councillor accuses Mayor Manoj Garg of being indifferent towards non-BJP councillors as “neither adequate fund is provided nor development proposals are cleared”.
