Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday favoured increased interactions between students and different education institutions outside the state to clear the misconceptions relating to security environment prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir.

Malik said this would change the perception about J&K and help promote better understanding among youth regarding diversity existing in the country.

The Governor said this while chairing the 85th University Council meeting of University of Jammu (JU) at Raj Bhawan here on Saturday. He is the Chancellor of the university.

The council congratulated Vice Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar and his colleagues for JU being selected for a Rs 100-crore grant under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) phase-II in 2018-19. The grant has been sanctioned on the basis of NAAC grading and on the conferment of the category-I status to the university with full autonomy by the UGC, as well as on the basis of its performance in RUSA-I.

In order to usefully gain under RUSA phase-II, the Governor emphasised restructuring of course curriculum by integrating it with research in science and technology as well as humanities.

He stressed providing world-class teaching by modernising and creating smart classrooms, providing e-resources and state-of-the-art laboratories, introduction of new programmes and courses with emphasis on developing broad competencies and skills in order to ensure that students could compete at the national and global-level.

The council welcomed that the JU had been selected for establishing Institution Innovation Council by the innovation cell of the Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development, which has been set up with an objective to promote innovation in the university through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion ecosystem on the campus.

The Governor emphasised on ensuring adequate and separate sanitation facilities for girls within the campus which would be under the supervision of women supervisors engaged to look after such facilities and establishment of a common room for girls on all campuses and colleges. He suggested installation of mobile jammers in the examination hall and making biometric attendance necessary for teachers and research scholars.

It was informed that the entrepreneurship and skill development centre was being set up to promote entrepreneurship among the students and enhancing their skills in order to make them market-ready.

Calls for new courses

Governor Satya Pal Malik  called for creation of smart classrooms, provision of e-resources and state-of-the-art laboratories, introduction of new programmes and courses with emphasis on developing broad competencies and skills in order to ensure that students could compete at the national and global levels.
