A suspected militant was killed and two Army men were injured in an ongoing firefight in north Kashmir's Baramulla district today morning.

Police said the encounter broke out in Kunzer Tangmarg nearly 30 kms from Srinagar when the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army cordoned the area after an input about the presence of the militants.

"As the searches were being carried out, hiding militants opened fire at around 6 am triggering a gunfight that has so far left one militant dead," the Army said.

Two Army men were also injured in the gunfight, who were evacuated to the Army’s Srinagar-based hospital. The condition of one of the injured jawan is stated to be critical.

Additional deployment of troops has been rushed to the area as security forces suspect more militants hiding in the area.

The identity of the slain militant could not be established immediately.
