State JEs Council president Paramjit Singh Khattra and general secretary Davinder Singh condemned the decision of the state government to shut down the power plants.

“The decision to shut down the plants has been taken despite the fact that Rs 715 crore was spent during 2004-07 in the phase one and 2010-14 in the second phase for the modernisation of the Bathinda thermal plant. It seems that the government wants to favour the private power players. The ultimate sufferer will be the consumer and economy of the state,” Khattra said.

The junior engineers threatened to intensify their protest if the state government failed to review its decision. — TNS
