Polluted water supply in the Mori Mohalla and Ber Sahib Road at Sultanpur Lodhi has made the lives of residents miserable. Receiving the water having a foul smell for the past many days, residents said the inaction by the Nagar Council in the matter was the reason behind the supply of dirty water to residents.

The affected areas are the market opposite the Sultanpur Lodhi Civil Hospital as well as the Ber Sahib Road, Mori Mohalla and a migrants’ colony near the area.

Dr Swarn Singh, a Sultanpur Lodhi resident who runs a diagnostic centre in the market near the Civil Hospital, said: “For the past four to five days, we are receiving polluted water. On the first few days, it was so bad that we could not even stand near it as it was having foul smell. When we filled it in bottles and it was black in colour. While the residents have verbally made a complaint to the council, so far no solution has been found. It’s an open invitation to diseases. However, the quality of the water was marginally improved today.”

Residents said with many of the area water pumps being without chlorine dosers, the absence of these was also causing a problem.

With the foul water, cases of vomiting and diarhoea had also been reported from 10 to 12 houses of the area.

Nagar Council president Vinod Gupta said: “A pipe in the area was broken due to which there was some leakage. We have fixed it and now, the area is getting clean water supply. As far as the chlorine dosers are concerned, the older pumps already have them and we would be installing these in the new ones soon.”
