Yadgar Hall library — a boon for students

To find a place rich in knowledge is definitely not a cakewalk in today’s time. Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall, which otherwise too stands affirm without any support from the government, has a library.

It is blessing for the youngsters who want to crack competitive exams and those who love literature. The library is also proving to be a boon for them who are interested in the great movements that happened in the country.

Every day, students can be seen studying in the library with full concentration. The library provides a lifetime membership for only Rs500. Students from abroad come here to research on various topics. The library got proper place only around two years ago. To date, close to 300 students have been registered with it.

Students preparing for competitive exams not only read books but also use laptops for their preparation.

“The students start arriving here at 8 in the morning and they sit here till the evening. Recently, three girls from Japan had also come to gather some information on their research topic,” said Gurmeet Singh, general secretary of the Yadgar Hall committee, adding that there are more than 32,000 books in the library.

To accommodate the students, who come in large numbers, the library authorities are adding the furniture.

The committee members also provide the free lodging facility, along with meal, to the students who come here from different regions. Recently, a PhD student from Harvard University had also visited the library.

The students here can get a chance to learn about the precious heritage, history and culture.

Even universities also advise the students to visit the library for their research work. Gurmeet said students from various universities such as Punjabi University and Guru Nanak Dev University visit here to study.

While talking to The Tribune, Sonali, a student, said she had been visiting the library for the past nine months and had been preparing for the exam of Chartered Accountancy. 

“I have seen other libraries too, but the kind of infrastructure and facilities and comfortable environment we get here is not available anywhere else. Coffee and tea-vending machines are also available here,” she added. 

Chiranjilal Kangniwal, who has been associated with Yadgar Hall committee for long, said the students here could find books, which they could not find anywhere else.
