Pensioners take out march against drug abuse in city

Members of the Punjab Government Pensioners’ Coordination Committee on Friday took out a protest march against drugs from Pensioners’ Bhawan located at old tehsil. The march ended in front of the gate of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

The committee members demanded that the sale of drugs, which is going on unabated in the state, should be stopped. Punjab Police pensioners, PRTC pensioners, PSPCL pensioners, senior citizen pensioners, co-operative society pensioners, central employee pensioners and Punjab Government employee pensioners participated in the rally.

Committee speaker Darshan Maur said the nexus between corrupt politicians, erring police officers and drug smugglers had ruined youngsters of Punjab. He said drugs had destroyed the lives of many youngsters and politicians were trying to gain political benefits out of this serious issue.

He termed the dope test as a drama to fill the coffers of the state and claimed that drugs could not vanish with dope test.

The coordination committee demanded that strict action should be taken against erring officials or politicians who were responsible for drugs in the state. They said with the cooperation of people, drugs should be stopped.

Ranjit Singh, Bali Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Jatinder Krishan, Gurdarshan Singh, Kulwant Kingra, KK Singla, Ramesh Singla, Harbhajan Phul, Atma Singh, Sukhmander Dhillon, Babbu Singh and others addressed the rally.
