Mani Majra resident duped of Rs1.75 crore

The police booked a couple, resident of Sector 4, here on Monday for allegedly cheating a Mani Majra resident on the pretext of selling their house.

The complainant, Satish Goel (50), told the police that the accused identified as Rajeev Garg and his wife Ramee Garg had fixed a deal on Rs 2.75 crore for selling their Sector 4 house. Goel told the police that as discussed earlier, he deposited Rs 1.75 crore as advance and the remaining amount was decided to be given at the time of registry.

“We deposited Rs 1.75 crore in instalments on good faith as they were close relatives. Garg assured me that he will appear before the sub-registrar on March 28 to comply with necessary formalities for registration of sale deed in my favour,” he added.

The complainant reached the office and waited till evening, but the accused did not turn up. Also, the accused did not respond to Goel’s repeated phone calls.

“Later, I went to Garg’s house and requested him to execute the sale deed, but he refused to do so. He also declined to return the money,” the victim stated.

Later, a complaint was moved to DCP Rajender Kumar Meena. Cops registered a case against Garg and his wife under Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation), IPC. — TNS
