‘An actor cannot be a chooser’
Sudesh Berry is happy and grateful for his journey but is still waiting for the high point in his life
Sudesh Berry
Actor, producer and director Sudesh Berry, who debuted with film Khatron Ke Khiladi and TV show Mahabharat in 1988, has close to 43 films to his credit. The actor is in the news again for his character Sirji in Star Bharat’s widely appreciated show Muskaan. Sudesh Berry talks to us about the show, his role and how has his journey been so far:
What is the show all about?
The show is beautifully written and it subtly brings out the double standards of the society for a good change. The entire system of women dancing and the profession is put across the content of the show to promote women empowerment. No profession is good or bad. I think the show is doing really good and is strong in terms of the subject.
Tell us about Sirji on the show?
I will be referred to as Sirji on the show. I am basically the owner of the brothel that is shown on the show. I will be seen as a grey character who will be introduced to take a decision when he finds out that a girl named Musakaan is hiding in the house.
What kind of roles do you prefer?
I am an artiste by profession and by passion. And I feel an actor cannot be a chooser. I can mould into any character that comes to me. And I would want to act as much as I can. We are never too old for learning and experiencing something new.
Which is the best character you have played till now?
All the characters are close to my heart. And by God’s grace all the characters have been appreciated by the audience. I really enjoyed playing inspector Bharat in Suraag in 1998. Amitabh Bachchan is my motivation.
What has been the biggest turning point of your life?
It would be when I was launched as a hero after my movie Vansh in 1992. It’s after that film that I was talked about. But I am still awaiting the biggest turning point in my life to happen.
You are obsessed about?
I am obsessed with cleanliness. I like things to be prim and proper.
Your filmography shows mixed bag of films. Which space do you enjoy more?
I enjoy both commercial as well as niche.
What’s next on your wish list?
I still have a long way to go. But I am very happy and grateful for the journey it has been.
